ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd announce “The Sharp Dressed Simple Man” tour

Two legendary bands have merged and announced what is called “The Sharp Dressed Simple Man” tour. ZZ Top and Lynyrd Skynyrd will hit the road this summer with support from Uncle Kracker. The tour kicks off in West Palm Beach, Florida and wraps up in Camden, NJ. The tour, produced by LiveNation, travels across 23 cities and will be the first co-headlining tour for the bands.

Even though Skynyrd has stated in the past they plan on retiring from touring, the band has continued to tour from what was planned as a farewell tour in 2018-2020. Since the remaining 2020 tour dates had to be rescheduled due to Covid, the band renamed the tour to the “Big Wheels Keep on Turnin’ Tour”, hinting that this might not be their final tour. The band may retire from touring in the near future though, but Van Zandt has stated he will probably continue to release music.

ZZ Top has continued on after the tragic loss of founding bassist Dusty Hill in 2021. ZZ Top’s longtime guitar tech, Elwood Francis was named as his replacement. Guitarist Billy Gibbons has confirmed the band plans to release new music with Francis, which will be the band’s first musical release without Hill. Their latest release called “Raw”, is a live album which was recorded in connection of their 2019 Netflix documentary “That Little Ol’ Band from Texas”. The recording took place in Gruene Hall, which is the oldest music venue/dance hall in Texas. Gibbons stated the venue was a fitting backdrop to replicate the look of the band’s very beginnings.

Tickets go on sale Friday December 16th at 10am on Livenation.com. Presales for VIP packages, ZZ Top / Lynyrd Skynyrd fan club members, and Citi cardholders begin December 13.
