Metallica rolled out the black carpet at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles last night for their 2022 Helping Hands Concert and Auction. This was the third edition of their benefit concert, which benefits their “All Within My Hands” nonprofit. The show was live-streamed on Paramount+, Pluto TV, and MTV’s YouTube channel.
The black carpet was hosted by TV personality Carrie Keagan, who got to interview some legendary guests. Some of those guests were former Guns N Roses drummer Matt Sorum, Tony Hawk and Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello. Can’t forget to add that Lars’ wife Jessica also made an appearance and rocked the black carpet as well.
With Jimmy Kimmel as the event host, the show kicked off with a special set from Greta Van Fleet. The band also had a guest appearance from St Vincent, who joined them on vocals for “Nothing Else Matters”. Avi Vinocur, who is a San Francisco singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer and started out as studio technician for the band, joined them for the acoustic portion, playing the mandolin and singing guest vocals.
The band describes “All Within My Hands” as, “Established in 2017, All Within My Hands works with partners around the world to combat food insecurity, provide funds in areas of natural disaster, and support education with the ground-breaking Metallica Scholars program, now in its fourth year.”
They also had a lot of cool items up for auction, such as signed gear, a custom built Metallica bike and and a pair of autographed Vans. All of the proceeds from the auction and benefit show will go directly to people in need.
The band divided their epic performance into two parts, first performing five songs acoustic. Fans also got special surprise with new covers of Thin Lizzy’s “Borderline” and UFO’s “It’s Killing Me”. You can find the full set list below:
