Hollywood was filled with rebel yells as Billy Idol was honored with the 2,743rd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Billy is the first to receive a star in the new year, as fans gathered around in support of the rock icon. Guest speakers honoring Billy were artist Shepard Fairey and singer Henry Rollins, and Billy’s family and band were there to support him as well, including Steve Stevens, Billy Morrison and Stephen McGrath.
The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place on January 6th, but was rescheduled to the 7th due to weather . It was emcee’d by Lupita Sanchez Cornejo, who is the Chair of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and was dedicated at 6201 Hollywood Boulevard.
As stated on the official Walk of Fame website: “There will be lots of rebels yelling for their favorite rock star Billy Idol when he receives his well-deserved Walk of Fame star on January 5th..”stated Ana Martinez, Producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “Since the beginning of his career Billy Idol has held the hearts of many of his fans who finally will be able to visit his star and witness his induction into the Walk of Fame,” added Martinez.
Billy was a pioneer of the punk rock scene, which he states started out as fun and doing what he loved, but he never could have imagined doing it for 47 years and being honored with a star on the Walk of Fame. He thanked his fans and credited their support for his success. Guest speakers went on to say how deserving he is of the star, as he has stayed true to himself all of these years, and has become a legend in rock n roll.
Idol continues to grace fans with more music, with his most recent EPs, The Roadside and The Cage, being released in 2021 and 2022. He continues to work with songwriter and guitarist Steve Stevens, and consistently tours the world playing arenas and festivals with his band.
