Jeff Beck passes away at 78, rockers react

The rock world got some devastating news today. Legendary rock guitarist Jeff Beck has passed away at the age of 78. His family released a statement saying:

“On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing. After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.”

Ranking as one of the top 5 guitarist by Rolling Stone, Beck led a legendary career in rock n roll with his innovative sound. Born in Wallington, England, Beck received his first electric guitar at the age of 6. In 1965 Jeff was recruited by the Yardbirds after the departure of Eric Clapton. Beck was only with The Yardbirds for one full album, but it was during a time when the band recorded their most successful hits. Jeff was then fired from The Yardbirds leading him to form The Jeff Beck Group, which featured Rod Stewart on vocals, Ronnie Wood on bass, Nicky Hopkins on piano and Aynsley Dunbar on drums. The group would end up with many member changes throughout the years.

Beck would then move on to form a power trio called Beck, Bogert & Appice, but this group only ended up recording one album. There were points in time where Jeff was considered for Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones, but neither one ended up coming through. Moving forward to 2022 Beck collaborated with Johnny Depp on an album called “18”, and the two hit the stage for some tour dates. You can also hear Beck’s signature guitar sound on Ozzy Osbourne’s latest album, which include the tracks “Patient Number 9” and “A Thousand Shades”.

Jeff Beck is credited as one of the most influential rock guitarists and helped to redefine what guitar sounded like in rock n roll. He has won 8 Grammy’s in his career and was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame twice, once for The Yardbirds and the other for his solo career.

The innovative, talented and influential guitarist will be greatly missed. Below you can see rocker’s react to the death of the legendary musician:
