The Prince of Darkness took home two Grammys tonight. Ozzy Osbourne won Best Rock Album for “Patient Number 9” and Best Metal Performance for “Degradation Rules”. Ozzy was also nominated for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance, which marks the most nominations he’s ever received for an album.
The Grammy was accepted by Ozzy’s producer Andrew Watt and Robert Trujillo (Metallica), who played on “Degradation Rules”. Trujillo is also a former member of Osbourne’s solo band and played bass on most of Ozzy’s latest album, was well as cowriting the title track. In the acceptance speech, they passed along a message from Ozzy saying, “I love you all and fuck off.”
Ozzy has previously won 3 Grammys and had eight nominations. In 1993, Ozzy won a solo Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance for “I Don’t Want To Change the World” and two Grammys as a member of Black Sabbath for “Best Metal Performance” in 2000 for “Iron Man” and in 2013 for “Best Metal Performance” for “God Is Dead?” from 13.
Patient Number 9 is Ozzy’s thirteenth studio album, which was produced by Andrew Watt. The album follows his 2020 release “Ordinary Man” and features a wide range of iconic musicians. The different guitarists on the album were Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Mike McCready, Zakk Wylde, Tommy Ioni. The majority of drums are played by Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) along with a few tracks with the late Foo Fighters drummer. Taylor Hawkins. In the rotation of bassists were Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), and Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction).
